Dunkin’ Donuts wants Americans to run for miles in these sneakers

- Zlati Meyer

If America runs on Dunkin’, then what better way to underscore the tagline than sneakers themed around the nationwide doughnut chain.

That apparently was some of the reasoning that led Dunkin’ Donuts to team with Saucony, the athletic-shoe company, to create doughnut-inspired sneakers.

They’ll make you the talk of the jogging path.

Every pair comes decorated with pictures of sprinkles, coffee and the Dunkin’ Donuts logo. The back of the heel features a picture of a frosted doughnut, and the Saucony logo includes a coffee bean design.

While doughnuts and athleticism don’t exactly go together, Dunkin’ saw this running-shoe collaboration as a natural pairing. The two Massachusetts-based brands’ announcement comes three weeks before the Boston Marathon, and the $110 sneaker is intended as a salute.

“It’s about celebrating the roots of both companies and the ties to both a rich running and Boston tradition,” said Justin Unger, director of strategic partnerships for Dunkin’ Brands.

The Saucony x Dunkin’ Kinvara is brightly colored with the coffee chain’s iconic magenta and orange. Fewer than 2,000 pairs are available for sale, the company said.

The sneaker, packaged in a box with the Dunkin’ Donuts logo, comes in men’s and women’s sizes and is available for pre-order starting Tuesday.

Earlier this month, Pizza Hut introduced its Pie Tops II, hightop sneakers with a special button to order pizza.
