President Trump nominated Rear Adm. Ronny Jackson on Wednesday as head of Veterans Affairs.

He’s the White House doctor

Jackson reported in January that Trump was in excellent health after the president’s first checkup in office.

He’s a military man

Trump said Jackson

“is highly trained and qualified, and as a service member himself, he has seen firsthand the tremendous sacrifice our veterans make and has a deep appreciation for the debt our great country owes them.”

Jackson entered naval service in 1995 after earning his medical degree at the University of Texas Medical Branch. During Operation Iraqi Freedom, he was an emergency doctor specializing in resuscitating troops.

He was up for a promotion

The Pentagon announced Friday that Jackson was nominated for promotion to rear admiral (upper half ) from rear admiral (lower half ). The nomination would give Jackson his second star and a bigger paycheck.

He’s respected by both parties

Jackson has served Democratic and Republican administrations.

Wednesday, Alyssa Mastromonaco, deputy chief of staff under President Obama, tweeted, “there is no one better than ronny.”

He told Trump to exercise

After Trump’s physical, Jackson said the 71-year-old, 239-pound president could use more exercise and a better diet.
