NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, speaking an hour before the NBA 2K League held its inaugural draft of 102 gamers Wednesday at Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theater in New York. He added, “We have the NBA, the WNBA, the G-League and now this is the fourth league in our family, and that’s exactly as we’re treating it.” Seventeen of the league’s 30 teams are part of a competitive sport based around NBA2K, the uber-popular franchise from 2K Sports. Silver later said, “I do see them as athletes, because it requires a unique combination of physical and mental skills to excel.”

Artreyo Boyd, known by his NBA2K moniker Dimez, after Mavs Gaming made him the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA 2K League draft. Since he’s a 23-year-old from Cleveland and because of his skills in the game, Boyd is known as the LeBron James of 2K.
