❚ How thirsty: 20 mpg in the city, 26 mpg on the highway and 22 mpg combined in the four-wheel-drive Trailhawk version. Uses premium gas.

❚ How big: 15.2 feet long. ❚ How much: 4-wheel-drive Cherokees start at $25,495 with the 180-horsepower 2.4-liter engine. Price of the model tested was $39,800 before destination charges were added.

❚ Overall: Plenty of nice changes, including the optional turbocharged engine, but still room for improvement.
