Pope admits ‘grave errors’ made in Chilean sex abuse scandal
Pope Francis admitted he made “grave errors” in judgment in Chile’s sex abuse scandal and invited the abuse victims he tried to discredit to Rome to beg their forgiveness.
In a letter published Wednesday, Francis summoned Chile’s bishops to the Vatican to discuss the scandal. Francis blamed a lack of “true and balanced information” in his missteps in defending Bishop Juan Barros despite accusations by victims that the priest witnessed and ignored their abuse.
