McCain in stable condition after surgery for intestinal infection

Sen. John McCain, who is battling a deadly form of brain cancer, underwent surgery for an intestinal infection related to diverticul­itis, his Senate office announced Monday.

“On Sunday, Senator McCain was admitted to Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Arizona, and underwent surgery to treat an intestinal infection related to diverticul­itis. He is in stable condition,” his office said in a statement.

The statement said the senator has been in physical therapy as he recovers from the side effects of cancer treatment.
