UNITED WORKS TO IMPROVE PET TRANSPORT GUIDELINES
United Airlines will work with American Humane to improve its pet transportation. Resumption of reservations will wait until June and will allow only dogs and cats. The carrier suspended reservations for animals in March after a string of incidents, one in which a dog died in an overhead bin and two others in which dogs were sent on the wrong planes. The new policy rejects short- or snub-nosed pets, such as bulldogs, which have been shown to suffer breathing problems on flights. Cat breeds no longer permitted are Burmeses, exotics, shorthairs, Himalayans and Persians.
