Zayn Malik’s ‘Entertainer’
Of course Zayn Malik’s new single, Entertainer, has an official music video set in an Instagramfiltered strip club. Spiritually, that’s where most of his songs take place. Three years after exiting One Direction for a solo career, Malik has his aesthetics down to a science: moody alt-R&B about dangerous relationships, slightly mumbled lyrics about 3 a.m. encounters that occasionally give way to his trademark falsetto. Entertainer, the second single off his forthcoming album (title and release date TBD) isn’t the most dynamic Zayn single, but it’s a serviceable distillation of everything that makes a Zayn song in 2018, including a chorus — “You’re my favorite entertainer” — tailor-made for his fans’ social media captions.
