ABC canceled its hit reboot Roseanne after lead actress Roseanne Barr tweeted a racist message about former Obama White House adviser Valerie Jarrett on Tuesday.

As far as I’m concerned, we are at war to keep our country decent and respectful of one another. It seems that our values as a nation are being eroded, and that our fellow countrymen are being hurt and put in danger. Generations of Americans have fought to make this country welcoming to all. Let’s not throw all of that away. Larry J. Mitchell

Remember when an apology had to be on camera, or at least face-to-face? Now we just “tweet it out” and expect everything to be fine. Jim Inman Jr.

Until a few years ago, when I was offended by a movie, people told me, “Just don’t watch it, then.” When a TV show offended me, I was told, “Just change the channel!” I want to know when the rules changed. Now, hundreds of people lose their jobs because Roseanne tweeted a sentence. Was I wrong for being offended and wanting things to change back then? Why is it right now?

The words “racism” or “racist” have absolutely no meaning anymore! They are so overused, I no longer even take them seriously. Heck, I could say I don’t like black coffee and be labeled a racist!

As liberals would say, “She’s just a comedian,” “freedom of speech,” or “an artist is supposed to be offensive.” John Carlucci

Roseanne exercised her First Amendment rights and will now have to deal with the repercussions. The First Amendment guarantees your right to speak; it does not protect you from the consequences. WANT TO COMMENT? Stacie Lynam
