Kelly, Mattis need to do the right thing

- LETTERS LETTERS@USATODAY.COM

It is time for both former Generals John Kelly and James Mattis to recall that their oaths of office are to the Constitution, the nation and not to a person — the president. As a reminder, here is a portion of that oath: “I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same.”

Gentlemen, you have already de- stroyed your reputations having aiding this ongoing charade for as long as you have. It is time to, finally, do the right thing — resign and testify to Congress of this clear and present danger to our nation. As Marine grunts, you had to make the hard, life-and-death decisions. Reflect on those days when you had character and integrity, and do the honorable thing and help put this farcical presidency to rest. That’s the one act that can make America great again.

Lt. Col. John Lock, U.S. Army retired Colmar, Pa.
