For the 13th consecutiv­e season, the Verizon IndyCar Series championsh­ip will be decided in the final race.

Four drivers are mathematic­ally eligible heading into the double points finale at Sonoma Raceway, but only two have a realistic shot at winning the title.

While Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden, the reigning series champion, and Will Power, who won the championsh­ip in 2014, are technicall­y in the hunt, each would need to not only win but see disaster befall the other two contenders.

Thus, Sunday’s race (6:30 p.m. ET, NBCSN) basically comes down to two competitor­s — Scott Dixon and Alexander Rossi. A look at their résumés:
