Scott Dixon
Age: 38. Hometown: Auckland, New Zealand.
Car: No. 9 Honda. Team: Chip Ganassi Racing.
2018 wins: Three (Detroit street course, Texas oval, Toronto street course).
Career wins: 44. Championships: Four.
First season: IndyCar 2003; CART 2001.
Dixon has already cemented his legacy as one of the best drivers in open-wheel racing, but another title would put him in rarefied air.
Dixon won IndyCar championships in 2003, 2008, 2013 and 2015, and one more would break a four-way tie and move him into second behind only A.J. Foyt, who earned seven between 1960 and 1979. If Dixon wins the title, it would be the 12th for Chip Ganassi Racing since 1996.
Dixon’s 44 career victories (43 IndyCar, 1 CART) rank third all time, behind only Foyt’s 67 and Mario Andretti’s 52.
Dixon has three wins at Sonoma — 2007, 2014 and
2015 — and finished second in 2010. He finished fourth last season after starting sixth.
