Catholic Church has the power to change

- LETTERS LETTERS@USATODAY.COM

The Catholic Church is far overdue for correction and reform.

If church leaders learn how to heed the voice of the one they claim to know and follow, they would hear the primal call for ongoing repentance, reformation and heart-knowledge. If, instead, they continue to convince themselves and function as if it could not err, the failure is theirs.

Vatican II, in response to the overwhelming social justice needs of the times, opened the door to a level of humility that listened to others.

But the people of God have been overlooked regarding birth control, women’s equality, the inherent goodness and grace within all peoples, children’s natural wisdom, praise and gratitude. Overlooked, too, is honoring and developing personal conscience and inner voice — those interior gifts that help each person live in authenticity with self, others and God.
