At least three companies plan full transits of the Northeast Passage in
2019. As in 2018, Hapag-Lloyd Cruises will operate a voyage across the waterway on the 155-passenger Bremen. The trip will kick off Aug. 27 in Nome, Alaska and end 29 days later in Bergen, Norway an east-to-west routing that is the reverse of what the line offered in 2018. Fares start at 20,406 euro per person, or about $23,900 (information: 877

Joining Hapag-Lloyd on the route for the first time will be Silversea Cruises. The line’s 144-passenger expedition ship Silver Explorer will sail from Nome on Aug. 10 on an east-to-west crossing that will end 25 days later in Tromso, Norway. Fares start at $43,110 per person (information: 888-978-4070; silversea.com).
Also marketing an east-to-west sailing on the route is New Zealand-based Heritage Expeditions. The company has chartered Akademik Shokalskiy, an ice-rated Russian research vessel that can hold 50 passengers, for a 28-day trip that starts in Anadyr, Russia and ends in Murmansk, Russia. The voyage begins Aug 19; fares start at $21,900 per person (information: 866-285-7884; heritage-expeditions.com).
