Bill Cosby isn’t the victim in this situation

-

LETTERS LETTERS@USATODAY.COM

Staunch supporters of Bill Cosby believe that his conviction was racist and sexist in nature, that he was unfairly convicted and is really a victim. I have never heard such garbage in my life.

Cosby’s conviction and sentencing had nothing to do with the color of his skin or an overzealous #MeToo movement, but everything to do with his despicable and heinous actions. He may very well have gotten away with sexually assaulting over 50 women.

With immense wealth, power and fame — which Cosby deftly used to escape justice for so long — he was anything but a victim. Kenneth L. Zimmerman Huntington Beach, Calif.

FACEBOOK USA TODAY OPINION

As someone who admired Bill Cosby, not only his performances but more important for his positive influence in black culture, I feel his legacy has been shattered. And it was his own disgusting acts, not the district attorney’s, that put him in this position. He is finished. Michael Younger

For many decades, those who have decried the progress of women have made accusations of revisionist history as previously unreported evidence of women’s accomplishments and plights emerged over time.

Well, here is an example of how an important piece of entertainment history is being revised before our very eyes. A man who was gifted as an entertainer and who bridged for many the wide gap of racial misunderstanding turns out to be a convicted rapist. And while this verdict addresses only one incident, many women have come forward with similar accusations against Cosby. This is another victory for women. May this not be the last instance of the rich and powerful being brought to justice. Jeanne Nelson
