We shouldn’t rely on Social Security

-

I respectfully disagree with Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt. Yes, Social Security is a needed government program, but it’s a program that has been pilfered for decades by Congress. I for one have very little faith that if Social Security was expanded that it would be run any better. Political leaders have been raiding the Social Security fund for so long, there is nothing actually in it!

Sanders actually believes that he can continue to raise taxes on wealthier people to pay for those earning less. I believe that if you want more, do more. Study harder and get ahead that way. Work longer hours and get ahead that way. Increase your skill set, move and switch jobs if needed, but you control (for the most part) what your future is, so you should do what is needed.

Social Security is a great addition to people’s financial success in their golden years, but it should not be relied on to solve your obligations when retired. Ask Greece. Mark Ferrer Covington, La.
