Former student charged with killing two, wounding four in classroom

Since 2014, there have been at least seven other shootings on or near North Carolina colleges and universiti­es:

❚ Jan. 31, 2019: A man was wounded by gunfire near UNC Charlotte’s uptown campus. Police said the campus was not targeted.

❚ March 20, 2018: A 20-year-old University of North Carolina Charlotte student was arrested after he wrote about committing a school shooting. He told a doctor that he “could not wait to buy a gun and shoot the university (UNCC) up.”

❚ Jan. 20, 2018: A 21-year-old student was shot and killed while attending a social event at Wake Forest University after an altercatio­n.

❚ Nov. 1, 2015: A 19-year-old student was shot and killed and another wounded in a shooting at Winston-Salem State University.

❚ Oct. 25, 2015: A student was shot and injured at North Carolina Central University.

❚ April 13, 2015: A gunman shot and killed an employee of Wayne Community College in Goldsboro. The shooter was a former student who had been dismissed from a work-study program for too many absences.

❚ Feb. 11, 2015: Three Muslim students were shot and killed at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. A 46-year-old Chapel Hill man was arrested and charged.

The three most recent shootings on campuses across the USA:

❚ Aug. 20, 2018: A man and campus police exchanged fire at Georgia State University the night before classes started.

❚ March 14, 2018: One person was killed and another was injured at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

❚ March 8, 2018: Person injured in shooting at University of South Alabama.
