Agent says body found in Evelyn Boswell case

- Hayes Hickman USA TODAY NETWORK – Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The body of an approximately 1-year-old girl found Friday amid the search for Evelyn Boswell had the “exact clothing” as the Tennessee toddler was described as wearing when she was first reported missing, according to a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agent.

Other children’s clothing, toys and diapers also were found at the Boswell family residence in Blountville, Tennessee, where authorities discovered the body during a search of the property, TBI Special Agent Brian Fraley testified during a bond hearing Monday for Evelyn’s mother, Megan Boswell.

Fraley did not specify where on the property the child’s remains were found.

Second Judicial District Attorney General Barry Stabus noted that Megan Boswell’s father, brother and grandmother all live on the property.

Following the testimony, Sullivan County Criminal Court Judge James F. Goodwin increased the bond from $25,000 to $150,000 for Megan Boswell, who is charged with making false statements to investigators.

That charge currently is pending before a grand jury. The judge said Boswell also is being held on a contempt charge in Sullivan County Juvenile Court, although details of that case are not public.

Authorities have yet to confirm whether the child’s remains are those of Evelyn, who has been the subject of a statewide Amber Alert and an intensive search since she was reported missing Feb. 18.

Fraley testified the remains appeared to be those of an approximately 1- to 11⁄2-year-old girl that matched the description of Evelyn.

So far, no one has been charged in the child’s death.

Monday’s hearing was called after Stabus filed a motion requesting Megan Boswell’s bond be increased in light of the development.

Megan Boswell tentatively is set to return to court May 8.
