❚ The unprecedented $1.4 trillion stimulus package proposal is not coming without a political fight. Even with a growing number of their colleagues in quarantine over the coronavirus outbreak, lawmakers grappled Sunday over details of the deal aimed at pumping life into the crippled economy. Stock futures tumbled after the weekend of bad news.

❚ U.S. cases topped 31,000 with nearly 400 deaths as of Sunday evening. The worldwide toll stood at 328,000 infections and 13,700 deaths.

❚ President Donald Trump activated the National Guard in New York, which leads the nation in coronavirus cases, as well as California and Washington state. The federal government will cover those costs and deliver a total of 4,000 hospital beds and medical supplies to the three states, Trump said.

❚ At least nine states are telling people to stay home, with Ohio and Louisiana joining the list Sunday. Cities rolling out similar measures include Philadelphia, St. Louis and New Orleans.

❚ Still, moments of collective hope continue to emerge. Chicagoans belted out Bon Jovi's "Livin' on a Prayer" from their balconies, while Sunday worshippers connected in novel, socially distant ways. In Palm Beach County, Florida, a church held a drive-in service where friends waved and talked from their cars. “I encourage you to be lightbearers,” Pastor Susan Gray told her flock in the parking lot. “To not hoard toilet paper, but to share it with your neighbors.”
