IN MEMORIAM

-

Former Washington assistant Joe Bugel, who made the offensive line called “The Hogs” famous, died Sunday, according to a release from the NFL team. He was 80. “Joe had an incredible passion for the game of football,” former Washington coach Joe Gibbs said in the release. “He came to work every day with such great excitement and his players had tremendous respect for him . ... I will miss his friendship and I will always cherish our late-night arguments putting together the game plan each week.” Bugel coached 32 seasons in the NFL, including under Gibbs from 1981 to 1989, and was head coach of the then-Phoenix Cardinals for four years.
