Hong Kong Disneyland to close again

Hong Kong Disneyland will shut down again on Wednesday because of an uptick in coronavirus cases, less than a month after it reopened, Disney said Monday.

According to the company, the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort hotels will remain open but with reduced services.

The theme park first closed in January and reopened on June 18.

Hong Kong’s Department of Health has reported a spike in coronavirus cases in recent days. The department reported 28 confirmed cases on Saturday, and an additional 38 cases Sunday, for a total of 1,470 cases to date.

In contrast, Orange County, Florida, home to Walt Disney World, has 18,937, according to the state health department. However, Disney World still reopened on Saturday.

Across the country, the company’s other U.S. park, Disneyland in Anaheim, California, took a more cautious approach, scrapping its plan to open July 17 because of surging case numbers in the state. The Orange County, California, Health Care Agency says it has 24,715 cases.

Disney World, which allowed only a fraction of its usual 60,000 visitors per day on opening day, requires visitors to undergo a temperature screening, wear face masks and observe socialdistancing rules.
