It’s too early to reopen schools

-

With 60 years of experience teaching, including 24 years as a health educator, I can clearly see that the plan to reopen schools won’t work.

When I taught adults English and Spanish, we acted out plays. When I taught young children, we played circle games. The idea of students being able to carry out these educational activities while staying 6 feet apart is absurd.

President Donald Trump doesn’t care. He doesn’t think of a sick child with no symptoms infecting teachers, or teachers and staff infecting each other. He just wants the world “normal” because he thinks that will help him win. He can act as if the coronavirus was just a bad dream. But we need more distancing and masks before we talk schools. That reopening plan won’t work right now, sir.
