Live Nation, Veeps equip 60+ venues for livestreaming

There are more livestreamed concerts in your future, even though the nation is opening as the coronavirus pandemic hopefully winds down.

The biggest name in concert promotion, Live Nation, and livestreaming platform Veeps have begun equipping more than 60 U.S. concert venues for quick turnaround streamed concerts, the companies announced Tuesday.

Among the outdoor venues and clubs set to go live first are the Fillmore in San

Francisco and Philadelphia, the House of Blues in Chicago and New Orleans, the Wiltern in Los Angeles and the Shoreline Amphitheater in California and the Gorge in Washington.

“Artists and fans are eager to get back to shows, and livestreams will continue to unlock opportunities for them to connect more than ever before,” Live Nation Entertainment CEO and President Michael Rapino said in a statement.

In January, Live Nation made a majority stake in Veeps, which hosted about 1,000 ticketed shows in 2020, generating $10 million in revenue. The company was co-founded by Joel and Benji Madden of the band Good Charlotte.

“Veeps is the best at what they do, with Benji and Joel tapping into their own experience as artists to help other artists thrive, and we look forward to bringing this innovative idea to life in these iconic venues,” Rapino said.

Selected venues are regular tour stops, and an artist performing at one of them can livestream the gig, say, when the event sells out. Performers can deliver backstage access and front-row viewing angles, the companies said.

The Wiltern setup will host 10 “From the Wiltern” shows on Veeps, starting May 7. Tickets are $15 and are available at thewilternseries.com.
