That’s how many of this year’s 36 rookies on the PGA Tour are in the Sony Open field, including Parker and Pierceson Coody. Former Masters champion Charles Coody is the grandfather of the twin brothers, and their father, Kyle, made 20 starts on the Korn Ferry Tour.

Keep an eye on …

Chris Kirk. The winner Sunday at The Sentry, Kirk has a great track record at Waialae. This marks his 14th start at the Sony Open and he has five top-10 finishes, including a T-2 in 2021. The last player to win the first two events of the season? Ernie Els in 2003.

Will Zalatoris. Limited to seven starts during the 2022-23 season after having a microdiscectomy on his back, Zalatoris is set to make his first official start on the PGA Tour since the WGC Dell Technologies

Match Play in March. (He did play the Hero World Challenge in December and finished last in the 20-man field.)

Golf Channel coverage on Thursday (7-10:30 p.m. ET) will highlight featured groupings of Keegan Bradley, Will Zalatoris and Eric Cole (5:30 ET) and Ludvig Aberg, Sahith Theegala and Akshay Bhatia (5:40 ET).

On Friday, Kevin Kisner, fresh off his TV work last week, Tyrrell Hatton and Gary Woodland (5:20 ET) will get the star treatment along with major winners Brian Harmon, Matt Fitzpatrick and Justin Rose (5:30 ET).

FedExCup

Kirk earned 750 points for winning the season opener, a signature event. The FedExCup consists of 38 events. Viktor Hovland is defending champ.
