49 That’s how many of last year’s FedExCup top 50 are entered into the field. Pebble Beach is as good as it gets, and now that it is a signature event it has a stellar field to match.

Keep an eye on …

⬤ Rory McIlroy: The Northern Irishman is making his season debut on the PGA Tour and his second career appearance at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am (missed cut in 2018). He has finished in the top 10 in each of his past 10 starts on the tour, his longest streak of his career. He also won the DP World Tour’s Hero Dubai Desert Classic for a record fourth time a week ago. McIlroy can return to world No. 1 next week based on a variety of scenarios.

⬤ Jordan Spieth: Of all the players in the 80-man field who have played at least 10 rounds at Pebble Beach and Spyglass over the past decade, the three-time major winner has the lowest scoring average (69.61).

Spieth won here in 2017 and finished second a year ago. He’s seeking his first PGA Tour title since April 2022.

Golf Channel coverage on Thursday (3-7 p.m. ET) will highlight featured pairings of Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas and their amateur partners at Spyglass Hill (12:57). The amateurs may steal the show in the following group: Keegan Bradley is paired with NFL legend Tom Brady while Keith Mitchell is teamed with Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen at Spyglass (1:21). On Friday, Rory McIlroy and Ludvig Aberg (12:45) will get the star treatment at Pebble Beach Golf Links along with world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and defending champion Justin Rose, who tee it up with their amateur partners at Pebble Beach (1:09).
