1 dead in Easter brunch shooting in Nashville
One person was killed and seven were injured in a shooting at a coffee shop in Nashville, Tennessee, on Easter.
Metro Nashville Police Department spokesman Don Aaron said two men got into an argument during Sunday brunch at Roasted in the Salemtown neighborhood, and one pulled out a gun, according to the Tennessean, part of the USA TODAY Network.
First responders received calls about the shooting at about 3 p.m. The suspect fled in a Mercedes GLS 450 after firing multiple shots.
Sunday evening, police announced they were searching for Anton Rucker, 46, in connection to the shooting. Police said Rucker was a convicted felon with previous convictions for aggravated assault. He also had been arrested on felony drug charges and gun charges, Nashville police said on X, formerly Twitter.
The person who was killed was believed to be the other man involved in the altercation. Police identified him as 33-year-old Allen Beachem. Five other people were shot and suffered non-lifethreatening injuries, Aaron said.
He added that a sixth person suffered a graze wound, but it was unclear whether the wound was caused by a scratch or a bullet. The seventh victim, a pregnant woman, was taken to a hospital after having a panic attack, he said.
Dia Settle, a mother who was in a playground nearby, told the Tennessean that eight gunshots rattled the neighborhood as children were playing before restaurant patrons ran out into the street screaming and crying.
“Everyone was grabbing the children and running or dropping on the ground,” Settle said. “I got waves of chills because I could tell someone was hurt, just from the sound and that many gunshots.”
