VCHS Participating in ‘Nice Idea’ Program
Nice Idea is a free entrepreneurship program for North Dakota middle and high school students where they learn to be creative and entrepreneurial, connect with mentors and actual problems that need solving, and showcase their ideas to win support to make those ideas a reality.
“Now, more than ever, we need to inspire innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship across North Dakota. Nice Idea is a program that helps anyone, anywhere learn the principles of entrepreneurial thinking. We’re looking forward to seeing this generation of students continue to be inspired to solve problems,” said Scott Meyer, Ozbun Executive Director of Entrepreneurship at North Dakota State University.
Joining over thirty schools throughout North Dakota, Valley City High School students will learn about entrepreneurship in a series of experiential lessons built with Youth Entrepreneurs curriculum.
After completing the lessons, students form teams and are given a specific problem from a local business or government that needs solutions. They connect with their mentor to craft solutions to this problem, knowing their idea will directly improve their local community.
Finally, students showcase their idea at a statewide competition. A panel of experts choose winners who receive cash prizes and resources to make their ideas a reality.
The Nice Center at NDSU also provides scholarships for students who want to continue exploring entrepreneurship after high school at NDSU.
The final showcase will be held virtually on Nov. 19 as part of ND Innovation Day, an event dedicated to showcasing innovative products and ideas from across North Dakota. f
