Grand Forks Central is the best team in the state and they showed it today. We won 14 total games in 7 of the varsity matches with 27 games won overall. They are very consistent with placing the ball with good pace.

We made many improvements today along with we got several of our green sophomores a varsity match. Alex Rogelstad played very well in his first varsity match ever and Max got his first varsity doubles match with senior Derek. Ethan also got back in the line-up playing 5 singles. He was finding his rhythm with defensive and neutral balls.

Trey and Casey played some excellent doubles points at #2 and are going for their shots and working as a team. In singles, Trey was going for harder shots and he managed to hit them with consistency. Casey worked his deep slice and net game in the second set and found success.

On varsity exhibition, Miles and Emmett had their best efforts and highest level of play as Hi-Liners. Miles was stepping into balls and being aggressive. Emmett’s footwork was very good especially in singles where he played consistent with ball placement. Nice job Miles and Emmett.

Seth and Blake played some great doubles against what most would consider the best doubles team in the state in Sandberg and Panzer. The serving, the attacking the return and groundstrokes, the volleys, and the intensity was all top notch from both teams. In singles, Blake played some amazing singles against the odds on favorite to win the state title. Blake’s court coverage and anticipation might be the best around, but Sandberg’s racket prep leading to consistency, placement, and depth was too much today. Seth understands what he needs to do in singles. He understands what he did when he made a mistake. Seth roared back in the second set when he was down 6- 0, 5- 0 to get 5-3 deuce. If Seth wins that point to go 5- 4 and then gets to serve, who knows how that set would have ended.

The JV squad faced an older and more experience team today. Definite progress was seen in the matches with better court awareness and more confidence at the net. Players continue to work on communication as they play in different doubles teams. Jacob Kruger and Jared Burke had better serving success while Matthew Holm supports the team with encouraging talk on the court. We are proud of their sportsmanship and how they respect their opponents, no matter what the score is.
