Baunberger & Finlayson Finish 10th at the Bully Pulpit

The Valley City State University golf team had the opportunit­y to play the renowned Bully Pulpit Golf Course this weekend during the Dickinson State Invite.

VCSU golfers had two Top 10 finishes at the 36-hole meet, played

Sunday and Monday at the course near Medora, N.D.

Taylor Finlayson finished 10th overall in the men's tournament, carding a two-round total of 162 (78-84). Finlayson was tied for second place after shooting a 78 on Sunday, but several golfers went low – including two rounds under par – in better weather on Monday.

VCSU's Rory Gentzkow placed 14th with a 165 (87-78). Jayden Ewoniuk finished in 19th with a 170 total (88-82). Brady Warcken (27th, 97-80) and Landon Dematti (28th, 9485) rounded out VCSU's team score.

The Viking men finished fifth overall as a team. The Vikings shot 347 on Sunday before bouncing back with a 324 on Monday – shaving 23 shots off their team score.

VCSU's women had three golfers competing in the meet, so they were unable to record a team score. Jocelyn Braunberge­r placed 10th with a total of 190 (98-92). Hayley Shanks took 13th (102-89), improving her round score by 12 shots. Ashley McKittrick finished in 20th place (102-99).

Up next: Valley City State closes out the fall portion of its schedule with two one- day meets later this month in Fergus Falls, Minn. The Vikings will play the Spartan Invite on Sept. 27 at Pebble Lake Golf Course in Fergus Falls. VCSU will then play the M-State Triangular on Sept. 28 at the same course.
