For their third game of the season, Valley City Hi-Liner Girls Basketball hosted Fargo South this week. The half began with a Bruins run, posting a 14-7 lead before the Hi-Liners found an offensive spark. They claimed the lead after an 11-2 run of their own, 18-16 with just over six minutes in the half. The two teams fell into a back-andforth balance, matching one another’s baskets as the time ticked down. Going into halftime, the Bruins had a slim lead over the Hi-Liners, 29-27.

Fargo South came out of their locker room with an extra fire in their game, and they pushed their 2-point lead from the first half to a 5-point lead, 3429. Hi-Liner freshman Tesa Olson sank a 3-pointer to make it a 2-point game again, but that was as close as they’d get to Fargo South. The Bruins continued to dominate the court, quickly using a 15-3 run to put the score at 49-35. Valley City played hard to cut the lead, which they did on a few occasions, but they never got closer than 6. The game ended with a Bruins win, final score 73- 63.

Valley City’s Brooke Eggermont led the HiLiners with 25 points. Drew Potratz had four 3-point field goals, totaling 12 points, and Tesa Olson had 10 points. Dylann Diegel racked up 5 points, while Peyton Pederson and Jadyn Dieterle had 4 apiece. One of the biggest struggles the Hi-Liners had was capitalizing on free throw opportunities. Through the night, the home team had 24 attempts but only made 8 of them.
