John Oakland to Perform in VCBC Public Library Virtual Concert Series March 6th
The Bridges Arts Council and the Valley City Barnes County Public Library will be winding up their first-ever virtual concert series this coming weekend featuring three concerts. This series has aimed to bring some fun, local music to everyone free of charge.
Our final concert will feature local youth musician, John Oakland, and will be livestreamed on the Valley City Barnes County Public Library Facebook page at 2 PM this Saturday, March 6th. For more information/updates, please follow the Valley City Barnes County Public Library/Bridges Arts Council on Facebook.
John is nine years old, and he first performed professionally at age seven with his family band, Oakland Grove. He is primarily a drummer and a singer, although he has other musical interests as well. He was disappointed about his live performance opportunities being cut short by COVID last year. He is very excited to bring a live music show to people via the Internet. John loves the Valley City Barnes County Public Library and is happy to be part of their current concert series. His show is intended for children, but it is sure to be entertaining for all ages. It is a tribute to John’s long-time favorite band, the Beatles, and their 1968 movie “Yellow Submarine”. In his performance, John will share the story of the yellow submarine and
will perform several Beatles musical numbers that are heard in the original film. He will be accompanied by his mother, Maggie Oakland, former keyboardist for the renowned Grand Forks band FIRE.
All that is required to view the concert is a screen and access to the internet. It will be streamed live via the Library’s Facebook page, and then made available on the Library’s YouTube channel, so please follow the library on Facebook and subscribe to the Library’s YouTube channel.
