VCHS Girls Basketball Falls to Roughriders, 64-39
Valley City Hi-Liner Girls Basketball headed to Grand Forks to take on the Red River Roughriders in the quarterfinal round of the Eastern Dakota Conference tournament. When the ladies hit the court, Red River immediately jumped out ahead of Valley City, and quickly made their lead a whopping 27-0. The Hi-Liners got their first points off a basket from freshman Tesa Olson. Despite their early lead, the Roughriders didn’t hold the Hi-Liners’ offense down the rest of the game. At the half, the score was 36-12, Roughriders, but the HiLiners almost equaled Red River’s scoring in the second half, scoring 27 points to the Roughriders’ 28. Despite their effort, Valley City wasn’t able to put up enough points to close the gap Red River had established early on.
The game ended 64-39, Roughriders.

With the loss, the HiLiner girls fall to 10-12 overall this season. Red River, who goes to 19-3 overall, moves to the semifinals at the EDC tournament, for which they’ll host Fargo Shanley. In the other semifinal game, Devils Lake and Fargo Davies battle for the chance to head to the final game, to be held at the Scheels Center in Fargo on Saturday.
Valley City heads to West Fargo today (Thursday, March 4) to play in a loser-out game versus the Packers. If they’re successful there, they’ll play on Saturday at the Scheels Center in Fargo in a State Qualifier game. At the same time, West Fargo Sheyenne hosts Fargo South in a loser-out contest.
