Betty Spitzer

Betty Spitzer, age 89, went to her heavenly home March 23, 2021.

Betty Jean (Fiscus) was born June 30, 1931 in Breckenrid­ge, MN, to Jesse and Gertrude (Silvernail) Fiscus. She grew up and attended schools in Wahpeton, Milnor, and Gwinner before graduating from Lisbon High School. She attended and graduated from Valley City State Teacher’s College. Upon receiving her teaching certificat­e, she taught at Jackson School, a rural one room school between Oakes and Cogswell.

She met her future husband Harold Spitzer roller skating in Lisbon. They shared the same birthdate 5 years apart. They were married September 10, 1950 in the Methodist Church in Lisbon, ND. They made their home on the family farm near Enderlin, ND. Together they raised 3 children, Lowell, Lonna and Sharee. Betty was a devoted farm wife and mother. She was a founding member of the Enderlin Area Rescue Squad. Betty had a strong faith in God and was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Enderlin serving on the church council, Esther circle, choir, bible school, music leader and quilting group. Betty also had her own business making wedding cakes. She loved gardening, music, sewing, quilting, baking, oil painting, singing, playing her piano, and spending time with her family. Betty was the family prayer warrior.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Harold, infant son Kerry Spitzer, parents; Jesse and Gertrude Fiscus, five half-brothers, Russell and Bert Fiscus, Sollomon and Loynol Durgin; 4 half-sisters, Pearl Fiscus, Rose (Durgin) Kemple, Dora (Durgin) Martin and Myrtle Durgin.

She is survived by her 3 children; Lowell (Emma) Spitzer, Valley City, Lonna (Ron) Ristvedt, Fargo; Sharee (Tim) Femling, Pelican Rapids, MN; 6 grandchild­ren; Chey (Natalie) Spitzer, Melanie Spitzer, Justin Dehn, Shalonn (Brian) Simmons, Marissa (Glenn) Manning and Jenae Femling, and 6 great-grandchild­ren

Visitation will be from 12:00-2:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 26, 2021 at Boulger Funeral Home and Celebratio­n of Life Center, Fargo. Visitation will continue from 12:00-2:00 p.m. with a Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 27, 2021 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Enderlin, ND. Services for Betty will be livestream­ed on the Boulger Funeral Home website.
