Mark Hatcher Benefit to be held April 24th at the Valley City Eagles Club

- By Ellie Boese treditor@times-online.com

On Saturday, April 24 from 5-7 p.m., there will be a spaghetti supper, silent auction and bake sale at the Valley City Eagles Club to support Mark Hatcher and his family as they work through a trying time. Mark, a longtime resident of the Valley City area and icon of the Eagles Club, suffered a major stroke on December 26, 2020. He spent 3 weeks in the ICU at Sanford in Fargo and then had 3 weeks of rehab there before he was moved to swing-bed in Valley City for an additional 3 weeks. He’s at home now and is doing physical therapy twice a week to regain some of his strength. The stroke caused such severe swelling in Mark’s brain that surgeons had to remove sections of his skull to allow his brain room to heal. His family says that he will have surgery to put the bones back in his head hopefully in the next month, and he also has more extensive surgeries ahead of him in the months beyond that. With his eyesight and strength severely affected by the stroke, Mark will not be able to return to work. He is scheduled to see an eye doctor on May 3rd to see if he might be able to get back some of his sight, though his doctor has stated that it’s been long enough that she doesn’t think there’s much chance of that according to family representative. Mark is also going in for another CT scan on April 12th in Fargo, where he’ll have an appointment with Neuroscience professionals as well.

Mark has always been the guy that’s reached out and given a helping hand when others needed it, his family and friends say, and he has been a huge help in many

peoples’ physical and mental health. Now, the community is asked to return the favor as Mark and his family move through this difficult time.

Individuals can help out by attending the spaghetti supper, silent auction and bake sale at the Eagles on April 24, where any donations (items for auction, bake sale items and/or monetary donations) can be dropped off. For more information, call the Eagles Club at 845-2192 or Leanne at 320-3647.
