Ellen Marie Martin
Our beloved mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, wife and sister was called to the Lord on March 26, 2021. Ellen Marie Martin was born in Minneapolis, MN on April 8, 1939 to Charles and Brigetta Stoflet. They moved to Valley City, North Dakota where she attended St. Catherine’s Catholic School. Upon graduating, she attended nursing school and practiced nursing at Mercy Hospital. While going to nursing school, she met the love of her life, Charley Martin. They were married on February 4, 1960. After having four children, they eventually settled in Dallas, Texas, where they lived for over 40 years. One of the many stories she told friends was how she thanked Char every day for bringing her to the warmer weather!
She continued to work part time as a nurse until she retired in the early 90’s. Throughout her life, her focus was always on her family. She especially adored spoiling her six grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren. Ellen’s warm and giving nature was shown in the way she always welcomed everyone into her home.
Whether it was a neighbor coming over to have a cup of coffee, her children’s friends spending the night or out of town friends passing through for a brief time, she always opened her home to them and treated them as part of the family. She had a gift for making everyone she met feel welcome and special and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her!
Ellen is survived by her husband of 61 years, Charley Martin, her brother Timothy Stoflet, four children, Brad Martin and his wife Bobbi, Bryan Martin and his wife Kim, Jill Bassett and her husband Pete and Jody Martin. She was also blessed with six grandchildren, Casey Hyvonen (husband Alec), Travis Martin (wife Morgan), Blake Bassett (wife Valerie), Ashlee Martin, Carly Bassett and Mackensie Thomas (husband Brady) and three greatgrandchildren, Harper Hyvonen (2), Colton Hyvonen (4 months) and Cooper Martin (1). Although we will miss her dearly every day, we rejoice in knowing that her spirit is free and dancing in heaven!
