VCSU Vikings Drop Rivalry Game to Jamestown

(VCSU) VALLEY CITY – An intense rivalry game went to the University of Jamestown on Friday night as the Jimmies defeated Valley City State 81-64 in men's basketball action.

Valley City State led by as many as eight points at 16-8 after a Jalen Addison 3-pointer with 13:18 left in the first half.

Jamestown responded with a 12-0 run to take its first lead of the game and did not trail the rest of the way.

Valley City State drops to 3-3 overall. Jamestown, ranked No. 19 in the NAIA, remains undefeated at 6-0. The two rivals will rematch on Nov. 27 in Jamestown.

Connor Entzi made three 3's and scored 17 points to lead VCSU's offensive attack. Kevin Schramm added 16 points and five rebounds, and Jalen Addison scored 13 points and made three 3-pointers.

The Vikings shot 39 percent overall (24-62), 36 percent on 3's (9-25) and 64 percent at the line (7-11). Jamestown finished the game at 52 percent overall (32-62), 44 percent on 3's (11-25) and 67 percent on free throws (6-9).

The Vikings trailed 4531 late in the first half before scoring the final four points to cut the deficit to 45-35 at the break. VCSU then scored the first four points of the second half to creep within six points at 45-39, but that's as close as the Vikings could get the rest of the way.

Mason Walters led the Jimmies with a big double-double of 29 points and 17 rebounds. Cole Woodford scored 16 points and Marc Kjos added 15 points on four 3-pointers.

Jamestown turned the ball over 13 times while the Vikings committed just nine turnovers. The Jimmies held a 45-24 rebounding advantage, including a 10-4 edge in offensive rebounds.
