Vikings Close Out 2021 With 52-Point Victory

(VCSU) The Valley City State University men's basketball team ended the first half of the season with an easy victory, rolling to a 10452 win over Oak Hills Christian College.

The Vikings scored the first 19 points of the game and opened up a 62-22 halftime lead, coasting to the victory in the second half.

The Vikings enter a three-week holiday break with a 10-4 overall record and a 1-0 mark in conference play. VCSU resumes conference play with home games Jan. 7 and 8 against Dakota State University and Bellevue University.

Four Vikings reached double figures, and 12 different players scored in Sunday's victory. Jalen Addison led the way with 20 points – all of which came in the first half. Matthew Schlottman posted a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds, while both Eddie Oyet and Duoth Gach scored 13 points.

The Vikings had 25 fast-break points in the first half, using their full court pressure defense to create easy layups on the offensive end. VCSU finished with 26 assists, including eight by Cayden Rickard and five from Joshua Kelly.

Valley City State shot 51 percent overall (4282) and 34 percent on 3's (14-41). Oak Hills shot 33 percent overall (2164) and 8 percent on 3's (2-23).

The Vikings forced 22 turnovers by Wolfpack, including 14 in the first half. Eleven different Vikings had at least one steal. Valley City State held a 48-33 rebounding advantage, including a 13-7 edge on the offensive glass.

Up next: Valley City State takes three weeks off before resuming conference play in January. The Vikings host Dakota State University on Jan. 7 for its next contest.
