Thoughts:

We lost to both Mandan and Dickinson last year. This year, we were playing without our #2 and our #7 and we still managed to win both. Hats off to our players that stepped up. Seniors Trinity Nelson and Faith Orner played in their first varsity match of the season and won the match that clinched the victory versus Dickinson! Trinity followed that up with winning the clinching match against Mandan with Georgia. Nice Job Ladies!

Against Dickinson, Breck had a great match against a very solid player in Valeria. Breck battled back from down 1-4 in the 2nd to force a tie-breaker. Excellent comeback Breck! Kailee and Geogia cruised to wins in singles. Abby and Abby didn’t have their mojo in this round, but both would find it on Saturday at the Sheyenne Invite.

Mandan won the state title last year, but graduated 6 of their 7 varsity players. With our lineup, we felt confident in three wins. Both Abbys upped their games from the first round. The doubles were solid and Kailee played her game to earn the three wins. As we were dealing with 50mph winds, our players’ attitudes were great and we still played excellent tennis.

The West Fargo JV match is always a great time. They brought 38 kids and we played for 3 hours on all six courts. Our kids played a ton of matches as we only had 11 JV giving each player had 3 or 4 matches. It was fun and a great experience for both teams. This is WF’s only away match on the year and they love it as they finish the night off with Pizza Corner.

The Sheyenne Invite is 9 different draws with 19 participants per draw. All 19 teams in the state participate, so it is one entry per team per draw. We play 6 different singles tournaments and 3 different doubles tournaments at 9 different locations throughout West Fargo and Fargo.

Highlights from the Sheyenne Invite:

Abby and Abby went 3-1 and took 3rd place at #2 doubles.

Olivia and Breck got to 9-9 in the super tiebreaker to go to the #1 doubles semifinals.

Kailee took a set off of the #1 singles 5th place finisher.

Georgia made it all the way to the consolation championship at #2 singles.

Alyssa/Trinity and Ella earned wins on the day.

Faith O, Faith K, and Chelsea all played in their first varsity matches of their careers.

Up this week for the Hi-LinersMonday: Home vs Red River at 4pm

Thursday: Home vs Fargo North at 4pm

Friday: Home vs Sheyenne at 4pm

Saturday: JV Regionals in Fargo at 9am

Depending on results from this week, we could end up anywhere from the 7 seed to the 2 seed. We are currently 4-2 in the EDC with three EDC contests Monday, Thursday, and Friday. Here we go!

I love being a Hi-Liner!
