Hi-Liner Wrestlers split triangular with Breckenrid­ge/Wahpeton and Lisbon

The Valley City HiLiners hosted Breckenrid­ge/Wahpeton and Lisbon at the Hi-Liner Activity Center recently and came away with a 1-1 record. The Hi-Liners beat Breckenrid­ge/ Wahpeton 71-6 while they fell to Lisbon 48-21. Lisbon has won the last seven state Class B individual team titles and the last four dual team championsh­ips.

Valley City 71, Breckenrid­ge/ Wahpeton 6

The first dual of the night had Valley City taking on Breckenrid­ge/ Wahpeton. The shorthande­d Storm only had seven wrestlers for the Varsity match which means it would be a quick dual.

Chase Coghlan got things off to a good start for the Hi-Liners with a pin of Jordan Kappes at 106.

The Hi-Liners received forfeits at 113, 120 and 126 to take a 24-0 lead.

Tucker Johnson picked up his 16th win of the year with his tenth pin as he pinned Colman Barth at 132. to make it 30-0.

At 138, Jayden Mascarenas-Malan pinned Dann Bergmans late in the first period to up the score to 36-0.

Koye Grebel picked up his 22nd win of the year with a 16-0, tech fall win over Weston Jensen at 145 making the score 41-0 Valley City.

Alex Rogelstad clinched the dual for the Hi-Liners with a 9-4 win over Henry Slettedahl at 152 to make it 44-0.

At 160, Tyson Hovland defeated David Erlandson

6-0 to make it 47-0. The Hi-Liners then received forfeits at 170 and 182 to make it 59-0.

Chase Marsh picked up win by fall over Andon Bulow at 195 to make it 59-6 Hi-Liners. That was the last match of the dual because Valley City picked up two forfeits at 220 and 285 to make the final 71-6.

Lisbon 48, Valley City 21

The marquee match up of the night had the top ranked team in Class B, Lisbon, against the sixth ranked team in Class A, Valley City.

At 106, Cruz Reinke of Lisbon, ranked fifth at 106 in Class B, defeated Chase Coghlan 9-2 to give the Broncos the early lead 3-0.

Tyson Klabo tied things up at 3 with a 5-0 win over Greyson Lyons at 113. Koltyn Grebel would give the Hi-Liners

the lead with a pin over Ryan Enge at 120 to make it 9-3 Hi-Liners. Enge is the number two ranked wrestler at 120 in Class B while Grebel is number one at 113 in Class A.

Lisbon would take back the lead at 13-9 with wins by Noah Anderson at 126 and Kashdon Wadeson at 132. Anderson won by fall and Wadeson, number one at 132 in Class B won by major decision over Tucker Johnson. Johnson is ranked fifth at 132 in Class B.

Koye Grebel pinned Carter Wallner late in the second period to give the Hi-Liners their last lead of the night at 15-13. It was Grebel’s 22nd win of the year and 180th of his career.

At 145. Jordan Dick brought Lisbon would give the Broncos the lead back for good with

At 152, Eli Lyons came away with a 7-3 win over Alex Rogelstad. Bronocs were up 22-15.

At 160, Tyson Hovland held his own against Blaze Reinke, the top ranked wrestler in Class B at 160. Reinke won 5-1 to make it 25-15.

Freshman Corbyn Powell faced Boeden Greenley, who is ranked number one in Class B at 170 and a four-time state champ. Greenley won by fall 27 seconds in to the first period to make it 31-15.

Levi Sveum, number one at 182 defeated Cardar

Jewett by tech fall, 15-0, at 182 to make the team score 36-15. That win clinched the dual for the Broncos.

Gabe Lyons won by fall over Andon Bulow 16 seconds in to the first period at 195 to make it 42-15. Lyons is ranked number one at 195 in Class B

Broden Muske, ranked number one at 220 in Class A, pinned Drew Anderson to get the HiLines back on the board at 42-21.

The dual was wrapped up at 285, when Grant Lyons, the number two heavyweigh­t in Class B, won by fall over Scot Rohde to make the final 48-21.

The Hi-Liner girls picked up an 18-6 win over Lisbon as well. Gabby Hannig, Deegan Kirschenma­nn and Brooke Bundy all won by fall. Bundy wrestled two extra matches and won by fall in both of those as well. Hannig is ranked third at 105 and Bundy is ranked sixth at 190.
