BCN students raise funds to help local family
Mrs. Miller, first grade teacher and Mrs. Bosse, elementary principal from Barnes County North spent their Monday in Fargo donating the funds raised at the bake sale to the Sanford Children’s in honor of local student, Ella Legge. Ella’s mom, Heather, joined via phone to share Ella’s story to kick off Sanford’s Cares for Kids radiothon.She shares, “We are so grateful to be surrounded by such a generous community, the care Ella received, and a positive outcome in her recovery! A special thanks to Zero from Y94 and Hillery from Sanford for meeting with both of them to accept the $800.00 check to the Sanford Children’s Hospital.”

On November 22, Ella Legge was taken by helicopter to the Fargo Sanford hospital where she spent 6 days on the ventilator in the Pediatric ICU and another 4 days of recovery in pediatrics. She had severe lung infections and complications due to RSV, along with possible underlying asthma.
As her parents, it was heartbreaking to watch her suffer with little means to help her. However, the nurses, doctors, therapists, and other staff are phenomenal at Sanford. The care provided in the PICU is around the clock, with one nurse stationed to each child. After they were able to remove the ventilator from Ella, she had recovery with occupational, speech, and physical therapists.
Yet, her favorite part of recovery was the Child Life Specialist team. This group of caregivers pays close attention to each child’s wishes, giving them access to activities and projects. Kids recover faster when they can do things they enjoy, which is that team’s specialty. It was incredible to see Ella smile again, doing activities she enjoys.
We want to thank all the team members at Sanford Children’s, by donating the proceeds from the bake-sale fundraiser held in honor of Ella. Everyone in our community, including the staff at Barnes County North school were wonderful in their support and for hosting this fundraiser.
