Country Focus: Yay .... it’s the middle of February

- By Stacey Kunze-Lilja, VCTR Correspondent

Yay! It’s already the middle of February! Now, some of the snow is melting and freezing at night namely in the parking lots. Ice skating rinks created by Mother Nature are in many places around the area. Shuffling your feet like a penguin is completely acceptable and often encouraged. My daughter forgets about the ice and races to the car after school. She hits an icy patch and does this crazy dance with flailing arms in order to keep her balance. “You’re gonna hurt yourself!” “Mom! I’m fine!” Okay, don’t cry to me when you fall right square on your tushy.

My daughter also like to dance at any given moment whether she’s at home or out in public. She’s only 10 so she can get away with it. If I did that out in public, yeah… not going to happen. She has grown up with music all around. I did, too. I grew up listening to The Beatles, Elvis, Motown, and my parents’ song “Kisses Sweeter Than Wine.” In the country music genre, Marty Robbins is one of my dad’s favorites. I still enjoy The Oak Ridge Boys, Alabama, Conway Twitty and pretty much all late 1970’s and 1980’s country music era. My first concert was going to Barbara Mandrell at the Bison Sports

Arena. She was quite an entertainer and I have downloaded her popular songs.

The only Broadway play I have seen is Jersey Boys. A story about Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. Incredible music! I purchased the CD and have played it many times. When Aubrey was little, her favorite song was “Sherry”. “Momma, play Sherry Baby!” Her taste in music is a lot like mine. If it has a good beat, I’ll listen to it.

Lastly, I want to say Happy Anniversary to my parents, Allen and Marilyn Kunze. Cheers to many more and love you both!
