Hi-Liner Baseball drops game at Red River

Grand Forks Red River scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to break a 4-4 tie on the way to an 11-5 win over Valley City in high school baseball in Grand Forks.

Valley City out hit the Roughrider­s but could not overcome six errors in dropping their second game.

Red River got on the board first with two runs in the bottom of the second and third innings. With the bases loaded in the second and one out, Cole LeDuc drove in the first run with for the Riders a sacrifice fly. Alexander Seaver scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-0 Red River after two.

In the bottom of the third, with two out and a runner at first, Dylan Desmarais reached on an error, Mason Stroh scored from first to make it 3-0. Seaver then singled in Desmarais for a 4-0 Rider lead.

The Hi-Liners would battle back and tie the game with a four spot in the fourth. With runners at second and third, Kai Kringlie, who led off the inning with a single, scored on a wild pitch. Will Schwehr reached third on the play. Jack Samuelson walked and Carver Pederson singled to load the bases. Bryson Heck reached on an error that scored Schwehr to cut the lead to 4-2 Red River. Gavin Gerhardt would drive in Samuelson with a sacrifice fly to make it 4-3. Broden Muske’s two out single scored Pederson to tie the game at 4.

Red River would regain the lead for good by scoring six runs in the bottom of the fourth. Brett Feller’s one out double scored LeDuc to break the 4-4 tie with one out. With two outs and runners at second and third, Desmarais reached on an error, Feller and Mason Stroh scored to make it 7-4 Red River. Desmarais went to third on the play. Seaver reached on an error which scored Desmarais to make it 8-4 Riders. Seaver would come around to score on the third error of the inning by the Hi-Liners which made it 9-4. Kelly Middleton singled, scoring Brady Price to make it 10-4 Red River.

Red River would add a run in the bottom of the sixth on a wild pitch to make it 11-4.

Valley City would wrap up the scoring when Broden Muske, who singled to lead off the seventh inning, scored on a double play.

Kai Kringlie led Valley City by going 3 for 3 with a run scored. Carver Pederson was 2 for 3 with a run scored. Broden Muske was 2 for 4 with a run scored and an rbi. Will Schwehr was 1 for 2 with a run scored. Gavin Gerhardt was 1 for 3 with an rbi. Max Mehus took the loss. He went 3 2/3 innings allowing five hits and eight runs, of which only three were earned. He walked seven and struck out four.

The Hi-Liners, now 0-2 in the Eastern Dakota Conference and 0-2 overall, are at Fargo North Tuesday, before returning home to play Shanley on Friday.
