Hi-Liner Golf goes south for first two meets

The Valley City Boys golf team had two meets last week as they were finally able to get the golf course to open the 2023 season. However, neither tournament­s were in North Dakota. The first one was “hosted by West Fargo Sheyenne at the Madison, South Dakota Country Club.

Valley City shot a 408 at the tournament and finished eleventh. West Fargo Sheyenne won the tournament with a 318, 17 strokes ahead of second place Grand Forks Red River. Junior Zach Skarperud was the medalist with a 71.

Valley City was led by Andrew Tangen with a 92. He missed the top 20 by one stroke. Alex Rogelstad carded a 100. Ethan Bear shot a 107, Espen Kunze shot a 109. Isaiah Schuldheis­z had a 117 and Sam Meyer shot a 125.

The second tournament was at Spring Creek Golf Course in Harrisburg, South Dakota. The Hi-Liners were eleventh again, but improved their score by 26 strokes. Grand Forks Red River won the tournament with a team score of 296, three strokes better than West Fargo Sheyenne. Carson Skarperud of Grand Forks Red River was the medalist with a 70.

Again, Andrew Tangen was the top Hi-Liner with an 83. He tied Zach Skarperud, the medalist from the first tournament, for 23rd with his 83.

Alex Rogelstad improved his score by five strokes with a 95. Ethan Bear improved by one with a 106. Espen Kunze improved by nine strokes with a 100. Isaiah Schuldheis­z had the best imrpovemen­t. He carded a 98, a 19 stroke improvemen­t. That was the second best improvemen­t in teh conference from the first to the second tournament. Sam Meyer finsihed with a 143..
