North Dakota State University (NDSU) Extension and the NDSU Department of Plant Pathology has set the 2024 Crop Pest Identification and Management School (formerly Eastern Crop and Pest Management School) for Feb. 27 and 28 at the Fargodome in Fargo, North Dakota.
The school is geared towards firstand second-year crop scouts and will cover multiple topics including disease identification, insect identification and herbicide symptomology in wheat, barley, corn, soybeans, dry beans, canola and sunflower.
Each topic will feature an interactive session that includes traditional instruction accompanied by a handson identification and learning opportunity.
“The program has been developed to address both insect and disease pests on a crop-by-crop basis,” says Andrew Friskop, NDSU Extension plant pathologist. “Attendees will walk away with a better awareness of pest problems in Northern Great Plains crops, and tips on how to identify insects and diseases in the field.”
Undergraduate students at NDSU also have the opportunity to receive one classroom credit for their participation in the school and passing of a final exam on February 28.
A total of 9.5 continuing education units (CEUs) will be offered to Certified Crop Advisers (CCAs) who attend the event.
