NDSU Crop Pest Identifica­tion and Management School set for February 27-28 in Fargo

North Dakota State University (NDSU) Extension and the NDSU Department of Plant Pathology has set the 2024 Crop Pest Identifica­tion and Management School (formerly Eastern Crop and Pest Management School) for Feb. 27 and 28 at the Fargodome in Fargo, North Dakota.

The school is geared towards firstand second-year crop scouts and will cover multiple topics including disease identifica­tion, insect identifica­tion and herbicide symptomolo­gy in wheat, barley, corn, soybeans, dry beans, canola and sunflower.

Each topic will feature an interactiv­e session that includes traditiona­l instructio­n accompanie­d by a handson identifica­tion and learning opportunit­y.

“The program has been developed to address both insect and disease pests on a crop-by-crop basis,” says Andrew Friskop, NDSU Extension plant pathologis­t. “Attendees will walk away with a better awareness of pest problems in Northern Great Plains crops, and tips on how to identify insects and diseases in the field.”

Undergradu­ate students at NDSU also have the opportunit­y to receive one classroom credit for their participat­ion in the school and passing of a final exam on February 28.

A total of 9.5 continuing education units (CEUs) will be offered to Certified Crop Advisers (CCAs) who attend the event.
