Dorothy Stangler
Dorothy Stangler, 92, Fargo died peacefully Sunday, April 21, 2024 at Bethany Retirement Living.
Dorothy was born to Edward and Rose Ertelt on a farm three and a half miles east of Valley City. She attended St. Catherine School in Valley City, graduating in 1949. While growing up, she was a Girl Scout and belonged to a 4-H Club. Dorothy graduated from The Sisters of St. Joseph School of Nursing in Fargo.
Dorothy married Gerald Stangler on June 18, 1953. They lived in Williston, Bottineau, Rolla, and Fargo. While in Rolla, she worked part time at the Rolla Community Hospital and Clinic.
Dorothy belonged to the St. Joachim Church and was a choir member for a time. She taught religion classes when her children were old enough to go to school. Dorothy was a 4-H leader and a member of a Homemakers Club while in Rolla.
Dorothy and her husband moved to Fargo in 1968 with their family. She was a critical care and cardiac nurse at St. John Hospital for 25 years, retiring in 1994.
A member of Nativity Church, she volunteered as usher and lay minister of communion. She and her husband Gerald also counseled engaged couples. Dorothy liked to volunteer, helping with funeral lunches. Dorothy was an avid gardener and enjoyed spending time in her flower garden. Spending time with her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren gave her and Gerald great joy.
Dorothy has four daughters, Dianne (Gregory) Gibb, Mary Ann (Rokelle Lerner) Stangler, Linda (Thomas) Dooher, Joan (Mark) Eckrich. She has eight grandchildren, Julie (John) Emerson, Theresa (Nick) Newton, Dan (Ayako) Dooher, Mary (Jacob) Anstadt, Joe (Jamie) Dooher, Garett, Claire, and Rien Eckrich and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Gerald, her parents, and sisters Bernadine Potter and Jeanette Ertelt and brother, Roman Ertelt.
Mass of Christian Burial: 2:00 P.M. Monday, April 29, 2024 at Nativity Catholic Church, Fargo with visitation starting at 1:00 P.M.
