Mocs even SoCon record by whipping WCU

-

Jacob Huesman accounted for five touchdowns and Keon Williams topped 100 yards rushing in a 42-21 Southern Conference win for the Chattanooga Mocs (3-2, 1-1) over Western Carolina (1-5, 0-3) on Saturday before 6,789 fans at Finley Stadium. Huesman racked up four TD passes while rushing for a fifth.

UTC took control of the game offensively and defensively in the first half. The offense scored three times, twice after turnovers caused by a swarming defense. The Mocs made three interceptions in the second quarter alone and allowed just 63 yards of total offense in the first 30 minutes.

Chattanooga scored on three of four possessions in a pivotal run. It started with a Huesman scoring toss to Troy Dye for 10 yards with Dye breaking a tackle to get his first career TD.

Catamounts QB Troy Mitchell looked deep on the ensuing possession, but Chaz Moore was there to intercept. Three plays later, Marquis Green caught a Huesman screen and exploded through the Western defense for the 67-yard score and a 14-0 Mocs lead.

A D.J. Key interception set up UTC's third touchdown on a 7-yard pass to Tommy Hudson, which gave the Mocs a 21-0 halftime lead. The teams traded second half scores for the 42-21 final.

Williams carried the ball 20 times racking up 127 yards and a touchdown.

Huesman was 18-25 on the night for 223 yards, while Terrell Robinson was the favorite target with eight catches for 56 yards.
