SCHOOLS · Cloud Springs Elementary will hold a celebratio­n Oct. 19 in honor of their 50th anniversar­y. The event will begin with a 5K Run/ Fun Walk at 8:30 a.m. See the CSE website to register. Cost is $15 single runners and $10 for additional family members and includes the race, an event t-shirt and snack/ water. An official clock will be used to record times. Other available activities throughout the day will be carnival games, inflatable­s, vendor booths, a “memory walk” and entertainm­ent. The public is invited to this event which features live entertainm­ent, silent and live auctions, retailers showcasing their clothing lines, a fashion show and food/ wine sampling. COMMUNITY · Walker County Schools’ Smith Planetariu­m at 7:30 p.m. will present a program titled “First and Farthest,” the story of space exploratio­n from Sputnik to Apollo 11. There will be full-dome animation alongside historic film and photograph­s. The program also includes a live sky interpreti­ve program.
