Local Halloween events, things that might go boo!
“Haunted Dalton” author Connie Hall will visit the Chickamauga Public Library at 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 29 to talk about and sign copies of her book. From the weeping girl of the former Hotel Dalton to longdead marching ghost soldiers and beyond, Dalton abounds in paranormal activity. The public is invited to join Hall-Scott on a journey through a host of spectral things that go bump in the night.
“Home of the Dead,” a ghost town and haunted hayride will be held at Mystery Dog Ranch on Friday and Saturday nights before Halloween. Admission is $10 for a ghost town that opens at 7 p.m. and hayrides beginning at dark. Proceeds benefit the non-profit HOZHO Therapeutic Equestrian Services. Lake Winnepesaukah becomes Lake Winnepespookah Friday and Saturday nights through the weekend of Oct. l 25-26. The scary amusement park is open from 5-11 p.m. and the cost is $24 for those older than 2 and $10 for those 2 or younger. From now through Oct. 31, Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, located at 4686 West Armuchee Road in Summerville, is presenting its third annual Pumpkin Patch. Hours of operation are 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., Monday-Saturday, and from 1-5 p.m. on Sundays. There will be a Pumpkinfest from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26. Rock City’s Enchanted Maize at Blowing Springs Farm, 271 Chattanooga Valley Road in Flintstone, Ga., is open Thursday through Sunday until Oct. 27. Admission is $7 for children 4-12, $9 for adults. In addition to the maize maze, a petting zoo will be open Friday through Sunday and there will be other activities — hayrides, cow train, pumpkin painting, corn slingshot, bean bag toss, inflatables and a pumpkin patch maze for children. Nightmares return to Lookout Mountain as Ruby Falls hosts its annual Haunted Cavern, voted one of the Top 10 Haunted Houses by Rand McNally in 2010. AquaScarium VI: Pirates of the Aquarium at the Tennessee Aquarium will take place from 6-9:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25. Dueling pirates and costumed scuba divers will welcome guests to both Aquarium buildings brimming with fun activities for “buoys” and “ghouls” alike! Come in costume and set out on a trick-or-treat scavenger hunt. Boogie with a buccaneer, learn how to talk like a pirate, and more. Admission prices: $6 per member, non-member adults $30 and $20 for non-member children under 18. Registration is required by Oct. 23.
