Three former Lady Trojans earn academic honors at Shorter

-

Shorter University finished the spring season with seven studentathletes earning Gulf South Conference AllAcademic honors and 63 receiving recognition on the spring season’s honor roll. On the year, Shorter saw a total of 182 students from 15 teams recognized as part of the GSC’s Academic Honor Roll (101 fall, 18 winter, 63 spring).

Making up the seven to earn All-Academic recognition, two garnered the honor for the second straight year and four had already been named to their respective sport’s AllConference squad — including both Player of the Year honorees from women’s lacrosse.

Earning the recog- nition for the second straight year were former Gordon Lee Lady Trojan Kendall Johnson for softball and Amanda Schwartz for women’s golf. Johnson, a senior, had a 3.887 grade point average in Nursing.

Alex Abbey and Crystal Marshall were named for women’s lacrosse, while the rest of the seven included Louis Tourtois (men’s tennis), Ornella Frere (women’s tennis) and Kari Chambers (women’s lacrosse).

To earn All-Academic recognition a student-athlete must have an overall GPA of 3.20 or better, be a starter of significant reserve and display leadership, academic curriculum, and community service involvement. Students who meet these criteria are then voted on by the conference’s sports information directors and/or faculty athletics representatives to comprise the lists. Ties are not broken.

Included on the spring honor roll for the Hawks and Lady Hawks were 18 from softball, 12 from women’s lacrosse, 10 from baseball, seven from women’s tennis, six from men’s tennis, and five each from men’s and women’s golf.

Also making the Honor Roll were two more former Gordon Lee softball players – junior Kalei Kimbrell (3.821 GPA in Early Childhood Education) and freshman Tiffany Holland (4.0 GPA in Accounting).
