Gordon Lee anglers win second straight bass fishing league title

The Northwest Georgia High School Anglers Associatio­n, the largest prep fishing organizati­on in the country, wrapped up its season last week and once again, the Gordon Lee Trojans were crowned as team champions.

Gordon Lee, who won the cup in 2015, were awarded the top prize at the year-end awards ceremony in Dalton last week.

The Trojans finished with four individual teams in the top four of the final standings.

Hunter Roberson and Caleb O’Neal accumulate­d 750 points to finish second, just nine points behind Dylan Hayes and Garret Hayes of North Murray. Roberson and O’Neal also won a spot in the regional championsh­ip.

Avery Shephard and Mickey Page (Northwest Whitfield) were third with 702 points, followed by Dylan Jolly and Ward Barber (Coahulla Creek) with 684 points. Gordon Lee’s Hayden Murphy and Trent Beaty (681 points) rounded out the top five.

Lakin Melton and Wiley Hemming (672) placed sixth overall for the Trojans, while teammates Colby Chapman and Will Smith (631) were 10th.

LaFayette’s Landon Rayburn and Kyler Cleghorn were 20th overall with 595 points. Teammates Clayton Stout and Caleb Boyd (590) were 22nd, while another Rambler team, Bryson Giddy and Tanner VanPelt, were 27th with 557 points.

Ridgeland’s top team of Chase Shrum and Eli Gilreath placed 28th with 554 points. Henry Ellis and Luke Tinker of Gordon Lee were 29th with 550 points and another Trojan team, Ryan Eldridge and Dylan Bates, were 31st with 542 points.

Team points standings were not available as of press time.
